Can anyone tell me why we sometimes listen to things that annoy us ? For instance, egotistical talk show hosts that seem to only allow their side of an argument to be voiced.
It truly drives me crazy but I listen anyway, and get madder by the second. I don't understand how people think that because they have a talk show ..theirs is the only opinion that counts. I guess I just need a to get my own talk show.
A friend once referred to the old TV Land shows (I Love Lucy...Gomer Pyle..Mayberry RFD)
as 'mindless television' and he meant it in a good way. His feeling was you could pay bills...clean the house or do all kinds of chores while watching TV because you had seen them so many times you knew the story line anyway... he used it as a kind of background music.
Those two extremems bring me to the point of this post. As much as I like music I find that lately my truck radio is always on an AM Talk Radio station. Since almost all of my 'truck time 'is back and forth to and from work I tune in for the six AM news and weather on the way to work. Since this is a shared station with FOX Sports I almost always get to listen to the station transition which consist of the Star Spangled Banner.. a musical version of the Lords prayer followed by a rather long spirited version of Amazing Grace complete with bagpipes . As silly as this sounds it kind of makes for a short 'reflection time' during the commute not to mention a morning sing along. (hey it's early ..nobody sees me..) The rest of the day features talk shows tended by local talent, and their lack of experience sometimes shows , but all in all it's not bad. The morning crew is somewhat opinionated . The two ladies in the afternoon mostly talk senseless dribble usually concerning social events around the valley, although they have several very informative guests weekly including a local veterinarian that takes questions anyone may have concerning their pets.
Point being if you utilize selective hearing you can pick up information on things going on in the valley if your able to skim over the small talk. The afternoon shows are hosted by more experienced MC's that usually cover local politics and events and are straight to the point kind of guys. I love them when I agree and hate them when I disagree.. but that's normal
The good thing is all shows take call-ins and are pretty fair at listening to your opinions.
All in all it passes the commute time and keeps one informed on local issues. I believe it's available on-line too So next time your bored.. tune it to..
