Ahhh.. Life in the country. No traffic to tend with
very few stop signs and none of those dreaded waits
at the red lights. My morning commute usually takes
in the neighborhood of ten to twelve minuets. And
that's driving slow and cautiously. Deer are about
the only thing I pass on my morning ride although
lately I do pass one car coming the other way on
the pike now and then. Until now. In the last few
weeks the State has decided to fix some on the
many slips along the highway in front of my house.
In the interest of safety they have set up temporary
red lights at the work sites. Now I know that it is necessary to protect the
workers at these sites but anyone who has ever encountered these temporary
lights know that in order to work safely they have to have an extremely long
pause between changes to allow cars to get completely through the work area
before the light changes for the other direction. I can deal with this most of
the time but compound it by four and If I had hair I would be pulling it out.
You would think maybe they would fix one slip and move on to the next... but
instead they have four sites... four lights and quite a few unhappy motorists.
Then again there is always a price to pay for progress. I guess I'll just quit
whining and take a crossword book to work with me...looks like I'm going
to have some time on my hands
P.S. And about those little blinking yellow lights on the caution signs right
by my house. Please ! Like living next to a flashing motel sign.
