Looking back to last year I promised that 2016
would be different. I hinted that there would be
fresh new content and some pretty amazing photos.
I lied. It wasn't a deliberate lie, but more of a
unaccomplished goal I had set for myself. In
reality I never took into consideration the nasty
weather ahead or the holiday lag on this old body
to actually get out and do anything creative.
I did manage a few days out and about deer hunting
but the time actually spent out and about was minimal
as I will explain in one of the following ever so famous
'Mid week snippets' ...............
Snippet #1
Foul weather hunting ....
In days gone by I awakened for a day of hunting bright
eyed and bushy tailed, ready to face whatever weather
Mother Nature threw at me.
Life changes !
Even on nice days anymore I roll out a little slower and
not quite as eager. Add the fact that I ran out of
propane for the furnace and the camper was around thirty
nine degrees and the wind outside sounded like a 747
landing in the yard, I calmly rolled my bushy tail back up
and climbed back in my toasty (electrically heated) bed.
Deer don't want to be out in that stuff either I'm sure
Snippet #2
Things I love, but can't enjoy.....
This ones a little hard to explain. Do you have a food or
drink that you dearly love but just can't seem to take the
time to savor the taste and enjoy it ? Go figure .. I have
many ! First one that comes to mind, because I just had
one, is yogurt. Particularly Yoplait key lime pie yogurt.
I dearly love it. Problem is it doesn't come in 55 gal drums.
It comes in those ridiculously shaped little cups that hold
about three spoonful's of yogurt. Barely enough to make
the walk from the fridge to the trash can.
I barely remember eating it !!! I have the same problem
with fruit juices, chocolate milk and such. It takes me
an hour to drink a soda but when I have any type of juice
I can't seem to put the glass down till it's empty.
Snippet #3
Winter driving.....
I've always prided myself with my ability to drive in
the snow. I've had several four wheel drive Jeeps, Blazers
trucks and even a AWD SUV. But for the last ten or so
years I have relied on small two wheel drive trucks and got
by just fine thanks to my outstanding driving skills. (Did I
mention that all of my vehicles toot their own horns too ?)
Anyway after my first ever black ice crash last year I find
myself being a little less cocky behind the wheel when the
snow flies. Yesterday was a extremely challenging commute
to an early morning breakfast club meeting. Roads were
completely ice covered with a layer of snow on top of them.
I spent probably forty five percent of the trip sideways
both up and downhill. Very nerve racking but I did manage
to keep it between the ditches as they say. Actually pretty
stupid on my part but it 's one of those 'no turning back now'
type of deals. Oh well at least I got the opportunity to hone
my winter driving skills.
P.S. I put my studded tires on today.
So that's it for my mid week review. Milder temps coming
for next couple of days so maybe I'll venture out.. Then again............
