As I mention in my last blog it's been a tad slow around
here recently. And we all know what that means. It means
that my mind wanders. Some say I shouldn't let it wander
because it's too small to be on it's own but Just the same I
let the little thing go where it may.
Bullion cubes... May I ask who is in charge of wrapping
those tiny blocks of compressed salt and suet? What skills
they must have! I worked for twenty minuets trying to
unwrap two of them and ended up tearing the paper in a
hundred pieces in a fit of rage. From now on it's the powdered
stuff in the jar for me .. I can't take the pressure at my age.
Wildlife question.... Who decides how many turkeys goes
into each flock? Every morning and evening at camp I
watch three separate flocks of turkeys feed in three different
fields. Each flock has eighteen turkeys. They walk through
the fields in a kinda V formation kicking up grasshoppers and
such for their daily meals. Now there is one 'Superpack' on
another section of the property that has sometimes as many
as thirty in it. I'm thinking that must be the governing body.
And of course you'll see a couple of loners from time to time
but I figure they are just ones that are 'on leave' from their pack
and will be rejoining soon. Still the three flocks of eighteen
worry me. What if they unify and challenge the Superpack??
We could have a Coo on our hands.. (no that would be pigeons)
Ducks ... Did you ever notice a flock of Ducks flying overhead ?
The are always in a V pattern so that the lead duck or goose cuts
through the wind which makes it easier on the trailing birds.
They alternate being in the lead so the whole flock get's a chance
to rest in the rear of the formation. What always puzzled me is
that one side of the V is always longer than the other. I could
never find out why that was and it drove me crazy. After some
research I found a guy that people said could answer any and all
questions about wildlife. So I wrote him and ask him 'Why is
one side of the V always longer than the other?' His answer....
Because there are more ducks on that side ! I feel so stupid !
