Educational weekend....

As we reach a certain age we naturally assume that
there is nothing left to learn.   Obviously one has to be
older than me to reach that plateau.
This weekend I was lucky enough to learn several
new things regarding alcohol consumption.. shoe selection
the difference between numbers and letters and a host of
other things.  That's great in a way because not only am I
smarter but It also means I'm still young enough to learn
new things.  That is assuming I do learn from the weekends
lessons.
Lets start with the alcohol since it could possibly have
been a factor in a couple of my other lessons.  First off let
me state that I am not a big drinker.   Yes I do enjoy a few
adult beverages around the campfire but almost always in
moderation. (by my standards..not my doctors )  To tell
the truth it is partially his fault.  He is the one that told me
to limit carbs to better my health.  Beer has a lot of carbs...
Whiskey.. not so much.  Lesson one.. A person can not drink
as much whiskey as they do beer over a given time period.
(I should have remembered that)  Lesson two..What you mix
it with is important.  Cutting carbs and loading up on sugary'
soft drink mixers is a 'push'   Now i'm hearing diet drinks are
killing me so I guess it's back to water.  (unless you live in Flint)
Anyway.. long story short I was at a little games party night at
the club and kinda /sorta overindulged.  Not bad mind ya but
enough that i didn't feel comfortable driving home. (Note.. If
you have a concealed carry in my state and get a DUI, it becomes
a felony.  Don't do that)   No problem I have a nice camper on
site for just such occasions. (not that it arises that often)  Here's
where things go awry.  Once at the camper I turn on the electric
and propane.. fire up the furnace  (20 degrees out side) and turn
on my mattress heater on high.  It's now 2 am and I'm ready to
crash for the night.   Fast forward to 3am and I'm awake.. I cold
and my head hurts.  I drift in and out till 4:40 and I can't take it
anymore.  Furnace is out, my magic blankie isn't doing it's job
I'm on the verge of getting cranky.  After a through accessment
of the situation i find that .A.. I turned on the wrong propane
bottle (empty one)   and B.. the controller for my heater had
somehow got turned over so the 'h' for High heat I was seeing
was actually an upside down 4.  or low.  I haven't figured out
who to blame for that one yet.  You have to admit that's pretty
good  detective work for a guy with 2 hours sleep and a hangover.
Once up and outside it did turn out to be a fairly productive
day with one exception.  Not wanting to be bothered with boots
of tennis shoes (or rather the inability to bend over and tie them
without the top of my head falling off )  I elected to do fire ring
maintenance in a pair of slip on clogs. Did you know they slip off
just as easily as they slip on ?   We have three fire rings at our
campsite and each is now stamped with my bare footprints.  And
if you've never danced around is a wood ash firepit in your bare
feet I can tell you now it takes a bunch of soaking and scrubbing
to get ones feet clean..  But my oh my are they soft and supple now..
