Boxes of memories.....

Remembering the boxes ..Past and present.....

Some people keep journals.  Some scrapbook.  Still others keep large
picture albums to remember their past.  Me, I was never that organized,
I had a box.  Not sure where it came from.  It was a small wooden box about
the size of a shoe box, perhaps a little smaller.  It sat on my dresser all through
my teens and contained very valuable 'junk'   Yes that's right .. junk  Well to
others it was junk.. to me it was priceless memories,  I kept that box  way
longer than I should have and to be honest I lost track of it sometime in my
mid twenties after several moves.   What a treat it would be to find it today
I still remember some of the things in that box,  a broken pen knife, several
wooden tokens from local places. a copy of my drivers license learners
permit, a couple pictures of high school 'friends' taped over from wear from
being carried way too long in a wallet and a couple political badges that I
probably wouldn't be too proud of today .lol   But it's gone now.  but not
forgotten.  And to no surprise it was replaced soon after by another box.
This one is a small tin box with a fishing scene printed on it .  Not near as
elegant, but served the purpose.   I haven't thrown anything in this box for
years yet it still sits at the ready just in case I get something I feel the need
to add for a keepsake.  I recently opened it up when cleaning and just sat
and reminisced about some of the items in it.  I also wondered what I was
thinking when I added a few of them  lol
I won't reveal the entire contents but there are a few noteworthy items in
there.  Such as a couple thirty seven year old 'It's a Boy' cigars that I'm sure
would go up like flash paper now.  The laminated obituary cards from both
of my parents funerals.  A couple badges from when I marched in
Washington DC years ago against steel imports. Even some jacket patches
from State tournaments I qualified for back in my Bass fishing days.  Oh yea.
and a couple of those ugly big brass belt buckles that were so popular back
in the day..  Plus lots of small insignificant items that I must have felt were
important back at the time.
Some would say it is junk,  To me it's worth it's weight in gold simply to
open now and then and recall some of the memories.  I guess this blog has
taken it's place in a way.  It's my journal of sorts.  Perhaps that is why I have
never promoted it publicly.  After all .. We can't let just anyone peek  inside
our memory box can we !!
