Bored ramblings....

Heads up !!    Can't sleep.  You know what that means?  Yep.. more bored ramblings as my thoughts wander aimlessly around my head and wind up seeping out of my fingertips onto this keyboard.  Perhaps latex gloves would prevent that but I doubt it.  My thoughts can be pretty invasive at times.   Anyhow.. why fight it ?   Maybe someone will receive some knowledge (or at least entertainment) out of my warped reasonings.

Today I was reflecting on the old adage that things from our past were made much better than the products today in this throw away society.  Things were made to be repaired and reused over and over.  Clothes were of simple design but made from sturdy natural fabrics which lasted forever.  Foods were not filled with chemicals to enhance there flavor and cross breed to look appealing on the shelf at the cost of losing their natural flavor.  Most are altered to extend their shelf life.  Which brings me to the root of all this babbling.

Honey.. is a prime example.  One of nature's perfect foods. pure honey will last forever.  It may crystalize over time but when reheated a bit is completely rejuvenated..   So why are the bottles of pure organic honey sold for high dollars in the stores marked with a Best By date????   Maybe so we'll throw it out and buy new??   Who knows.

My question is.  If everything from the past is so much better then why do I get yelled at for taking out of date meds?   Tylenol for instance.  Best deal is at Sam's Club.  Two 500 count bottles for next to nothing.  Problem is even with all of my aches, pains, accidents and self inflicted bumps and bruises I have a hard time using up 1000 pills in a years time.  So when they are expired I just take two handfuls instead of one.. sounds logical to me.  Just yesterday I dug into my private stash of cold meds for something to help with this nagging (non Covid) cough I've had for a couple days.  I took out two tablets and ask my wife to read on the box how many I should take a day (she had her cheaters ..I didn't)  She yelled "These things expired eight years ago"   Opps.. better give me two more then..   Nope .. into the trash and I had to go buy new.  I hope one of the rats at the landfill that has a nasty cough finds them and puts them to good use

While on the subject of meds I confronted a saleslady at Sam's the other day about a label on a product.  The product was One-A-Day vitamins for Men.  Label read. Dosage:  Take 2 tablets once a day.   How can they be one a days if I have to take two ?   Of course she used the old "your only taking them once a day" argument but I'm taking this to the high court !  I can count ! (well up to double digits anyway)

I guess it's not completely true that older is better.  I spent a lot of time working on my old cars back in the day.  Changing spark plugs and points every year or so.. changing exhaust pipes regularly and such.  Not so with the newer ones.  Most never own a car long enough for these things to need changing.  Ok score one point for the auto workers... but I still want my day in court with those bee keepers !!!!
