Kentucky Meetup
Once upon a time I couldn't wait to get out and film any event
I could for a You tube video. Not that I published many of them
but I liked having the footage just in case.
Recently I spent four days at a Bushcraft meetup with some
very interesting people and I think I took the camera out two times.
There were a host of opportunities. From people learning how to
make a bow drill fire for the first time to learning how to set up
emergency tarp shelters for those hadn't done it before, black
powder shooting, blacksmithing, traditional bow shooting. and
everything in between.. And there sat my camera ,in the case
in my truck. I may have enough footage for a 'short' but not much
more. It wasn't till I got home and was watching everyone else's
videos that I realized how lax I had been. I guess I was just too
absorbed in taking in the sights than I was filming.
That was probably a plus because I really needed a break. A
time to just relax and take it all in. Met some You tube friends
I've talked to for years but never met and met some new friends
I had never seen or talked to before. I never really learned anything
that I hadn't already crammed into my brain over the years but I
did get a few reminders of things I used to utilize but kind of ignored
over time.
Other valuable lessons were .1) 29 degrees is cold in a tent.
2)rain is wet no matter where you are. 3) You will only need 1/64th
of the gear you pack. The rest is just to fill every inch of space in
your truck. 4) fancy stoves seldom work in freezing temperatures.
learn to depend on open fire.
Other than that ... fun times! Packing for Tennessee in a couple
weeks .. we'll see if I learned my lesson. Probably not !
