Gun Control

I'll start this post but I will probably get upset and never finish it .  I have been watching TV all day with the news about the new gun reform passed in Washington and New York.  I am The first to admit that reform is needed.  Every time I read of a gun related crime I cringe.  The even more upsetting thing is the fact that these laws won't reduce the deaths caused by these crazy people that this unethical world has created and even more unsettling is, I have no Idea what the answer is.
I haven't seen the complete list of new laws yet so I'll just address the ones I have heard mentioned.
1) strict registration law reform (gun shows etc)
First off I have had to register every gun I have ever purchased.
Secondly .. Criminals don't like gun shows.  Almost always paper work involved
Criminals almost always use stolen or black market guns
2) Background check reform
This I have no problem with what so ever, Expand it to gun shows or whatever.  If you oppose
a background check then you have something to hide.
3)  Ban on high capacity magazines.
Doesn't affect me but serves no purpose  A simple piece of tape turns 2 ten round clips into
a 20 round clip with the loss of about 1.5 seconds shooting time.
4) Strengthen Assault weapon ban.
What constitutes an assault weapon?  pistol grip ?  composite stock?
most assault weapons are the same cal and capacity as hunting rifles except for cosmetics
5)  Ban Armor piercing bullets
No problem with this .. Until criminals start wearing flak jackets
6) Resource officers for schools etc
     no problem
7)  More Police on the streets
     No Problem
8) Tighten down on gun trafficting
     Great,  bout time
9) Health insurance to cover mental illness
Why hasn't this been covered all along?

That pretty much covers the new laws.. now for the 23 executive orders.

Most are common sense things that I have no problem with
although there are some   privacy issues that I'm not sure Big Brother
needs to know about.   Particularly number 16 stating  that under the
new health care laws the doctor has the right to ask if you have guns in
your home.  I have no no issue if mental stability is at question but as a
general question ?   NOYB !!

I guess what has me upset is not the laws but the reporting and commenting
that is being done on the subject.  Seems that people that know the least
about the subject are doing the most talking.  Reporters shooting M16 fully
automatic weapon at a gun range and saying this is what we are trying to ban.
Fact is a fully automatic weapons have been against the law for many years .
To purchase one you must have a federal firearms license and go through a
through check and maintain a very expensive license.   The magazine limit is
also a law that looks good but serves no purpose.. I have a .22 rifle I've had
since I was thirteen that has a 14 shot magazine.  this is not new to the assault
weapons they fear so much.
One other thing that has me upset is all the stink about the NRA ad about the
presidents children.  Which, by the way, I don't condone.  I think it was in bad
taste and totally unnecessary.  But by the same token I don't believe in having
these kids on TV all day touting gun control and saying Please Mr President
make guns go away.  This to me is on the same level and uncalled for !
Summing up let me make a suggestion.  Why don't agents go to any rough
neighborhood bar or known drug house on any given weekend and check for
illegal guns and weapons?    Answer because it would be infringing on their
rights since they have done nothing wrong.  Yet they have no problem passing
laws to limit what I can or cannot own even though I too have done nothing
wrong.
This country has a terrible problem .. but it's not new.  One only has to look
back to the gangster days with all the shooting and murders.  Authorities knew
then who had the weapons and where  they were getting them and never could
stop them.   They know now where the problems exist  but they refuse to address it
I'm sorry.. new laws are not the answer.  Enforcement is the answer.
And if they offend someone buy searching them for weapons .. so be it.
Frankly I'm offended by all of their ineptness !!
