Well the search is over. After several months of searching
Craigslist, the paper, the Green Tab and other various papers and sites
I finally found a camper the right size, in fairly good condition and
at a reasonable price to park at the sportsman's club. No easy task!
I simply wanted a small camper to spend a few nights a month in.
Nothing fancy.. nothing huge and nothing expensive. I soon found
out, after too many long trips, that .. one .. people are not very honest
when trying to sell things .. two.. My idea of nice condition and the
rest of the worlds idea are no where near the same. And three .. I am
the only one in the free world willing to sell things at 'reasonable' prices.
Being fairly handy I started looking at lower priced campers I saw in the
the paper etc. Thinking I could re-do what needed repaired. Most that I
went to see I wouldn't have pulled home if they gave them to me. So then
I did the dealer thing. Wrong again .. at the prices they charge you might
as well buy new. Then, enter a lady that was as sick of the Craigslist game
as I was. Trying to sell her camper she was met with a bunch of low ball
offers and broken promises from people promising to buy it if she would
hold it for a week or so , then not showing back up. She had re posted it
saying the camper was older but in pristine condition and always taken
great care of, I just had to send her a message. I explained what I had been
through and told her that since I lived over two hours away I was not going
to make that trip only to be disappointed so I ask her to please be honest
about the condition. Well that lit the fire !! She shot me a message back
explaining how C/L people had treated her and If I didn't believe her ad
then don't bother to make the trip. GAME ON! Ya know I had to go now.
After a two and a half hour drive through some really nice farmland I
found the house (not without a bit of 'tense' conversation with several
townspeople about having no cell service and the total lack of any kind
of public phone service for like three counties) and met the lady. I did my
best to disarm the situation and after a bit of smooth talking (I'm getting
better at that) we both had a good laugh about our posts.
Turns out the camper was exactly what I was looking for and in pretty
much the condition she described. Now we all know you never pay the
listed price 'BUT' after our previous tiff I was almost afraid to make an
offer even though I really wanted it. So with my price in my head I ask her
what would be the bottom dollar she would take If I paid for it right then
and there. After a long pause and a couple more of my corny jokes she
quoted me a price that was seven hundred dollars lower then my figure.
Done Deal! Finally two people met that were tired of the same things but
from different sides! She was tired of selling and I was tired of looking..lol
In all fairness the camper was a good deal for both of us. For me It's a nice
solid camper and she really did get a fair price. With it's age not many people
would pay much more. Some day soon I will write about the trip home
with it. After all we all know everything could not go this smooth in the
world that I live in. lol But for now ....It's home !!!!!
I can even burn food !!!!
Be fine if your not claustrophobic !
