This post will be short and sweet. Well, not so much sweet,
but I will make it short. I can write about stupid things that
I do on here because I know there is only a handful of people
(ok half a handful) that read this blog and since I sometimes
go back and read it myself It serves a good reminder not
to do the same stupid stunt twice. (or in my case three times)
It was a cool crisp morning when I stumbled out of the camper
coffee cup in hand and although I had planned on going bow
hunting again this morning I knew home duties called. So after
my morning coffee I "unhooked" my bike trailer locked up the
camper and jumped in my truck and headed home. Chores done,
I received a call from a fellow member that he needed help on
a project back at the club. So off I go back out to the club
where I back the truck right up to the trailer like I have a million
times before and jump on the bike and go to the area were we to
work. Four hours later after unearthing twenty five feet of thirty
six in culvert buried eight feet down in the muck, all tired, sweaty
and thirsty we were sitting on the deck having a cold beverage.
One by one everyone left so I decided to close up shop and head
home AGAIN . With everything closed up, locked up and stowed
away all that's left is to load the bike and be gone ! With the skill
on an Indy car driver I circled the lot, eyeballed the trailer, lined
up on the ramp zipped right up on...ALMOST. Remember earlier
in this 'short' post that I said I backed the truck up to the trailer ?
Noticed that I said nothing about hooking the trailer to the truck.
Well if anyone ever asks if you can load a trailer without hooking
it to something tell them the answer is no . In a split second I was
pointed to the sky like one of the Blue Angels on take off , which
would have been pretty neat except for the sound of the tongue of
the trailer lifting the tailgate completely off of my truck and tossing
it aside like yesterdays newspaper. The ride back down was a
more controlled descent .. kinda like how a carnival ride slows to
a stop when the ride is over. After looking the situation over I
found that it wasn't as bad as expected. A few small scratches,
that I think will rub out was about all of the damage. The tailgate
had simply been lifted off it's hinges. So a little bruised pride
and a couple scratches is not a bad trade off for getting to claim ..
I rode the fastest ride at the Fair !!!!
