Look out Bambi .. Here we come again.
Tomorrow starts the four day Muzzle loader season. Fresh snow
on the ground and cold crisp weather should make it an interesting
weekend. Saturday should be a good day with highs in the upper
thirties but it goes downhill from there. All this really means for
me is a lot more 'camper time' in the latter part of the weekend. lol
I like primitive weapon season because I enjoy the challenge of the
older guns although the newer modern muzzle loader rifles are a far
cry from the older guns this season was intended for. Progress is not
always a good thing in my mind. The only good thing is the newer
in-line rifles are still limited to a single shot just like the old ones.
Me, I'll be hunting with an old cap lock rifle not much different than
Lewis and Clark carried. A lot newer of course, but the same design.
I may actually try to harvest a deer if the opportunity presents itself.
The past few seasons I've passed on quite a few fairly nice deer. I
guess my heart just isn't in the kill as much as it is in the hunt anymore.
But with the weather being cold enough to preserve the meat and
such now would be a good time to procure some camp meat for this
summer plus I would like to try and tan a hide so hmmm probably
not but maybe. lol
If nothing else it will be a weekend of camping with some friends
and telling tall tales about the ones we let walk by. And you thought
fishermen were the only liars !
