We have had some outstanding weather lately which sort of limits
my material for blog posts since I have nothing to whine about. I've
actually been able to keep up with the grass mowing and such this year.
The one problem I have encountered is the invasion of the 17 year
Cicadas. The fact that they covered the porch, fence, trees and everything
else imaginable for the first couple weeks was bad enough. Plus the
fact that our Lab assumed that they were sort of treats dropped from the
Doggy Gods and meant solely for his consumption made for an
interesting couple of weeks. But at last they most all found their way
up to the upper reaches of the trees where they celebrated by serenading
us with a song of joy. Louder and louder until it echoed from the canyons .
For a week it was almost deafening to go outside during the day and early
evening. They have since quieted down some and found a new pastime
to annoy me. Obviously there is something about the sound of a lawn
tractor stirs up their fighting hormones ( or perhaps their sexual hormones)
and draws them to the sound like bees to honey. I'm not sure just why I
was under siege but I do know they were using all active duty and reserve
units to try and knock me off of the mower. At any given moment I had
several on my shoulders, a couple in my beard, a few under my sunglasses
up my shorts, on my socks and bouncing off of my forehead. Lucky for me
my head is too slick for a landing zone. I know they don't bite but they do
make one quite uncomfortable ! Hopefully in a couple weeks they will be
gone for another 17 years... And not a moment too soon !
Having had cataract surgery lately I haven't had the opportunity to get much
camping in this month but I had my final check - up yesterday so except for
a slight light sensitivity situation which should improve I am good to go. I
did get a couple days in last weekend plus some fishing with the grand Angles
which was nice.
So that's the month thus far in a nutshell .. Hope yours is going well !!
