How come back in my youth I used to love speed?
I used to visit the local drag strips and dirt tracks whenever possible.
I raced a couple of my street cars a time or two and did fairly well
but never invested the time or money into building a true 'race only'
car. Although I enjoyed watching the dirt track cars I never had an
opportunity to drive one. It looked like a great deal of fun but also
looked quite labor intensive as all that beating and banging almost
always left one with massive repairs every week before preparing
for the next weekend. Well that all changed this past week. Last
weekend my daughter called me to inform me that my son-in-law
and her had just purchased a late model modified car, trailer, the
whole shooting match and that I was needed for technical assistance.
Why at this stage of my life I would even consider getting involved
in such an endeavor is beyond me. But there we were Saturday at
the track only to find out we couldn't run because the car wasn't
equipped with a radio transponder to talk to officials. I thought
we could just yell real loud..lol Live and learn. Probably a good thing
as my son-in-law had never turned a lap in this car and would have probably
done some serious damage first time out..lol I will try and make it
out Thursday as he has rented the track for a few hours to dial the car
in and get used to it. Who knows .. maybe I'll get to take a few laps
in a late model after all..lol Probably not though.. I'm sure I'll just get to
do the pounding and wrench turning .. no steering wheel turning. That too
is probably a good thing. lol
I'll try and post a couple pics and a video of Sundays race if I can get
them off of my phone. I'm not sure I like the spectator part of this sport
though. Entirely too much dirt and grit for me. Bathtub had a mud ring
after my shower that night. Good racin' though!!!!!
