At a recent check-up I received a less than stellar
report from my doctor. It seems that for the past few
months somebody has been force feeding me large
amounts of the wrong foods thus causing my A1C
to jump to dangerous levels. So until I catch the culprit
I have taken in on myself to self limit certain foods.
For the last month I have had no bread.. no potatoes.. no
pasta or rice or any other high carb foods. In other words
nothing that is filling , satisfying or tastes good. Not an
easy task for someone like me that likes to eat. However
I have been doing really good. Until... Yesterday a friend
and I took a road trip to pick up a beef that we had split
with another friend. (makes perfect sense to buy 150 lbs
of beef when your on a diet right ? ) Anyway we stopped
for lunch at Mickey D's. OK.. grilled chicken without the
bread seemed logical. But as I finished my chicken I realized
that I had nonchalantly polished off a order of fries without
even realizing it. Oh well no harm .. no foul right. So today
I go out to my camp to do some repair work.. fill water tanks
and such and on the way back that little gremlin on my shoulder
convinces me that since I already fouled up yesterday.. what
would it hurt to sneak into the local Dairy Jean for one of their
famous Banana Splits in a cup. After all nobody would know
and we all know that if nobody catches you.. the sugar and carbs
don't count.
Now everybody knows that when you live in the country you
seldom run into anyone that you know when out and about (unless
you go to WalMart) So I park.. get my treat and wander back in the
shade of the trees to enjoy. Horns start honking.. hands waving..
too late to hide. It's one of my city dwelling Jambo friends and his
wife and grand kids out for a leisurely country drive. And but of
course his wife is a nurse that is fully aware of my medical problems.
After a brief conversation about the dangers of mixing diabetes and
large quantities of ice cream and assorted toppings and fudge I drove
off straight to the market on the way home for salad supplies and
some six dollar a loaf frozen sprouted grain bread. I'm not sure if
the bread is allowed because of the no flour sprouted grains or if it
is because it has to be kept frozen and it takes forever to thaw a couple
of the paper thin slices before you can eat them. At any rate I learned
my lesson and I'm back on the wagon. There seems to be no place to hide !
P.S. As a bouus I also got assigned to a new nutrition specialists.. Let see
how easily I can sweet talk my way around her. I hear she's pretty tough...lol
