Startling Discovery !!!!
I love hard boiled eggs. I've tried making them a million different ways with varying results. Cold water start .. boiling water start .. various different cooking times .. steaming .. You name it . I've settled on cold water start .. boil for one minute. Rest covered for ten minutes. Peel and eat. Does it always work? naa. But then again, I'm not a picky eater. Too many variables. Old eggs .. fresh eggs .. heavy pot vs lite aluminum pot .. as well as what I'm watching on You Tube that draws me away from my strict timing regiment and so on.
But the point of this post is the discovery I made tonight. It's near midnight and I have the craving for egg salad on toast. Figuring if I make the eggs tonight, I will have a head start in the morning. agreed?? I thought so.
Everyone has heard the saying 'A watched pot never boils' right? Tonight, I decided to test that theory. I took a dozen eggs and covered them in cold water and placed them on the burner and cranked up the heat. (Oh yea .. I paused my video so I wouldn't be distracted). I then got comfortable and hovered over the pot like a mother bear watching her cubs for what seemed like hours. nothing! finally, a touch of steam and several miniscule bubbles. I got excited. It stayed at this stage for approximately two more days. no more .. no less. Just then I heard the 'bling' of a notification popping up on my computer. Could be an important message. I grabbed the door frame and peeked around the corner for a nano second and saw it was just an ad. When I looked back the pot was at a rolling boil!! It took less than a millisecond to go from steam to rolling boil after I took my eyes off of it UNBELIVEABLE! Those old wives really know their 'stuff' (I cussed way too much in my last post)
When the eggs were finished, I decided to check something out. I refilled the empty pot with hot water and brought it back to a boil. That's when I discovered you can watch a pot of boiling water forever (or until the water is gone) and it will never stop boiling. simply amazing 'eh ? Plus, it's much more exciting to watch. So If one ever feels the need to watch water boil simply walk away till you hear it boiling (should only take a couple seconds with anybody watching) then come back and stare to your hearts content!
