Stumptown Steam Show ....

Step back in time..

Every Fall people from all over the Tri-State dust off their Steam Traction engines, hit and miss engines, Gasoline Maytag Washing machines and assorted steam toys and put on a show just outside or New Athens Ohio. It is a two day affair and I always try to make it out one day or the other. One can say it's my love of old things that makes me like it but I think it's more a matter of seeing how much easier we have it in today's world then they did in the past. This show should be a 'must see' for people who complain about how hard they work..
At the show you will see Threshing machines.. a lumber mill.. corn huskers.. shingle making saws (your getting excited ..I can tell) all powered by coal fired Steam traction engines and long belts (see saw mill pic) I know it sounds kinda dull but it is really neat to see the way things were done years ago.
I have to admit, the big draw for me is the huge pots of ham and bean soup cooking over a wood fire and dutch oven corn bread made from fresh ground corn meal. I type this with a heavy heart as this year I got there too late to get a bowl (all together..awwwwwwwwww) but I vow to be earlier next year !
Some of the displays are of models of steam engines and other assorted toys that are either of the steam era or sometimes just off the wall toys that people build. New to me this year was a couple of tractors made from sewing machines.
Me thinks someone has too much time on their hands..haha Here are a few more pictures of the event.......
