Me...Online

The Internet. What a wonderful thing.
Not a day goes by without my computer
getting a good workout. Back in the day I
thought it was just for my amusement.
Programs like ICQ and chat rooms opened
the whole world to my living room.
Being kinda backward when I was younger,
I was fascinated with being able to talk to
people around the world and even more
fascinated that they actually spoke back.
But then I found out that not everybody
in this world is ready for this sort of 'freedom
of speech'. Believe it or not ..not all people
in this world are truthful and most are not
looking for simple conversation and friendship.
Kind of busted my bubble 'eh ? Anyway, tiring
of this, I moved on, although I
still have ICQ loaded and have a few longtime
friends I talk to around the world.
These days my computer is my lifeline. I shop on
it..I pay bills on it.. I order pizza on it..I make
hotel reservations on it. It even allows me to
find friends and old hunting buddies I haven't
talked to in years and probably never would
have without it . I even use it to look
up recipes for my 'surprise 'meals. With great
features like spell-check and such..I can even
write short pointless stories to amuse myself.
Of course even spell-check is baffled by my spelling
attempts at times.
Enter the Social Networking era. Twitter and such.
Never tweeted.. have no urge to tweet. Now Facebook..
thats a different story. I do enjoy reading what my
friends are up to although from time to time I think
people (including myself) give out a bit too much
information. I mean who really cares what your cat
is doing. As I look back older post I sometimes see
myself doing the same thing..but then I blame mine
on the worn bearings in my brain that sometimes slip a
bit. I also need to manage my on-line time a bit better...
In the same two days I've been accused of ignoring
people on one hand and wasting time at the computer
all day.
The situation is when I come home I turn on the comp...
check my e-mail..headlines of the paper..FB wall and such
and then go about my chores. Throughout the evening i
may bring up the screen a dozen times as I walk by.
Sometimes I will see where friends have messaged me
in chat and then went offline. (those are the ones that
accuse me of snubbing them) or I may see a recent post
on my wall which I think needs a comment or two
(these are the one that think I'm a stalker sitting at the
comp for endless hrs) Either way I lose so I see
no reason to change lol So FYI If you message me and
I don't answer... I'm probably not here (duh)...and if you
message me and i answer you in three seconds..
I'm not stalking you ..It's a timing thing..lol
Maybe I'll work on an alternate plan someday, but I doubt it.
So I guess to sum it up I would say... yes I love the Internet
and my computer...yes I probably spend too much time on it
and no I don't intend on changing any time soon.
Besides..I need the extra time to search out quotes for my wall.
