Butternut chair ....

Shopping for furniture is usually a time consuming task in our family.
We are not ones to "re-do" rooms often so when we buy something it's going
to stay with us for a while.  Ok  I'm cheap !  There I said it.  Truth be known
I can make up a hundred reasons for not buying new furniture.  Anywhere from
'wait till the kids get older' to after the cat dies to maybe when the dogs are gone.
Truth is It's expensive and I hate spending money.
This brings us to the Butternut chair.  Several years ago, on Fathers day my
wife bought this over sized recliner on sale somewhere.  It was a fantastic deal
for her because she had wanted to get rid of a love seat that was just giving her
fits trying to arrange furniture twenty different ways throughout the year just to
keep me confused.  Since our living room has a large brick fireplace on one
entire wall it made it almost impossible to place two large objects in a way
that looked anywhere near organized.  I have to admit the chair did give us more
flexibility in arranging the room .. but !   First off the chair was kind of an
off creamish color. (Butternut is what the tag said).  Not exactly my favorite
color but it went well in the room.  Secondly it was an over sized chair.  Not
exactly like the chair and a halves that I see today.. but over sized just the same.
I'm more of a form fitting kind of guy.  I like to be nestled in and feel secure
when I lounge in a chair.  Don't get me wrong.. the chair is very comfortable.
I love the foot pad that is one piece with the chair, I love the high back and the
little tuft and pleat that cradles my head just so, It's just too roomy.
So as the years have gone by I've adjusted.  If anything I am adaptable.  I
found that two small dogs, one on either side, fill the void quite nicely.  I have
over the years trained them to whenever I sit in the chair the two smaller dogs
each immediately climb up and assume their positions.  Baby Brown on my
left and Buster Brown on my right (upside down of course).  As soon as we
are in position Betsy Brown will jump up and get her evening ear scratch for
about twenty seconds and then assume her position on the floor .  Thankfully
the small Yorkie  breeds are supposed to be non-shedding but don't believe
everything you read.  That's why it's called fur-niture.
The old Butternut chair is showing some age now.  The wife has several
covers for it but I'm not sure if they are for the dogs or me..  We look at new
recliners now and then when we're out but I've grown to like this big yellow
monster.  I'd hate to see it leave now.  On the bright side my son-in-law says
If we ever let it go he wants it .. it's the only chair he ever found that fit's him
so at least I can visit it in his man cave.   And to think I would have gave it
away in a heartbeat a couple years ago.
And so goes the saga of the Butternut chair.  I guess sometimes we don't
always see the finer points of things in our life at first glance.  Adaptability !
That's the ticket !
