New vs Nice ...

I sometimes feel the need to write these blogs
while the thoughts are fresh in my mind.  If I
wait oh let's say two minutes the subject will
probably be shuffled to the back of my pea sized
brain never to be recovered.  Sooooo .......
Today was a tournament day.  I expected a
miserable day with high water and cold temps
but the day turned out pretty nice.  It was chilly
and the lake was high and muddy but there was
some cleaner water to be found in the center of
the lake.  Plus we had clear blue skies and bright
sunshine all day after the dense morning fog
burned off.  Pretty much a beautiful day (except
for the lack of fish biting)  Wait !  Fishing is not
what this post is about.  Let me see .. What was the
topic again?    Oh yea I remember now.
I just came up from the carport after putting the
boat away.  I was doing the part people don't see
about owning a fishing boat.  The charging of the
batteries, (3) vacuuming the carpets, scrubbing off
the dirty water mark and the general wipe down
and clean up after every trip.
You see, my boat is not a new one. It's a 2001.
Most of the people I fish with have newer boats. I
on the other hand ,am perfectly satisfied with mine.
Those guys have boats that a lot bigger ,faster and
fancier than mine but most cost upward of forty K's.
I could have bought several of mine for that cost.
Yet I always get compliments on my boat when I'm
on the water. Not because it's a great boat or a new
boat but because It is a 'nice' boat.  Well maintained,
clean and pretty much ,shall we say, ship shape.
I see so many new boats that are abused and although
they are a lot better boat.. they just seem blah!  I would
love a new boat. A drop dead beautiful metal flake
crimson red number with a 250 hp monster on the back.
But alas that's not going to happen so I guess I'll just
keep polishing Edna (that's her name) and settle for a
'nice' boat.  Maybe this fall I'll get her some new carpet
installed.  That should make her happy
Of course that depends on how she treats me this summer.
