Almost escaped !!!!

I truly thought with my fishing and weekend stays at camp
that I may be able to escape the summer yard/flower/hanging
basket makeover this year. Alas it wasn't to be.  Oh I missed
a goodly  amount (favorite measurement again) of the original
basket buying and hanging and general yard clean-up.  I even
got the wife into a weekly ritual of cutting the grass inside of
the fenced in part of the yard.  Of course I have to get the
mower out, fill it up, do the weed eating and put everything
away after but hey.. baby steps.
Then the other day it happened.  She came home with a
rocking chair she found at a yard sale for a dollar.  The seat
was destroyed but she had a plan.  A couple years ago I took an
old wooden chair and cut a hole sort of 'potty like' in the seat.
She painted it bright yellow and ta daaa a new home for her
fern was born.  This rocker was meant to meet the same fate.
So I removed the old seat and built a new one complete with
a hole that would make anyone who had ever used an outhouse
get a rush of cold morning memories.  Thinking my deed was
done I cleaned up my work area and settled in for a late morning
nap.  NOPE.. not to be !  There was potting soil to be purchased,
mulch to be picked up.. raised beds to be built and all sorts of
garden related work to be done.  And of course I was needed for
the hefting 'n toting.  That is where I let my sarcastic sense of
humor bite me in the butt!   We decided it was time for the old
gas grill to make the move to the gas grill graveyard.  And for
some reason as I wheeled it out of the yard I thought I'd be funny
and say "I'm surprised you don't want to plant flowers in this"
Eureka !!!  What an idea !  I spent the next three hours removing
all the grills, burners, controls and side boards.  Painting the frame
constructing new sideboards with pot holders cut in them and
fabricating a cover plate for the front panel,  not to mention
buying more potting soil and another flat of flowers to fill it.
Lesson learned.  No more gardening jokes .. ever !
I think next year I'm going to stay at camp until August and
the planting season blows over.   Oops.. almost forgot I still
have to plant  my vegetable garden !   hmm maybe I can find
an old bathtub somewhere.
