Nuts !!
Not me personally of course. (although I'm suresome would argue that point) I'm speaking of nuts
of a different variety. I spent an extended weekend
at the camper this past week getting in a couple work
days for the club. Our major job was clearing the
canopy on one of the access roads that lead to a couple
of our ponds. It is a necessary task every few years as
the trees hanging over the road make it impossible to
truck in stone to maintain the roads. Anyway (as I wander
aimlessly off of the point of this post) I noticed that the
nut trees are loaded this year. Although the weather
frustrated me at times the trees must have loved it.
I have never seen so many acorns. Plus they are really
huge. Those squirrels are going to need a dolly to
haul their stash back to their dens. I took a quick ride
to my tree stand that is located in a little woods filled
with hickory trees and sure enough they are about the
same. (with hickory nuts of course, not acorns, that would
be just silly) lol Our campsite that we named Walnut
Grove is surrounded by, yep you guessed it , walnut trees.
Last year there were very few. This year one needs a
helmet to protect their noggin when walking around out
there. I did pick up a couple five gallon buckets of them
today before I came home to dry out. I really love black
walnuts but they are very labor intensive. I envy the
critters that can chew their way through those shells......
Such a beautiful day...
Even though the outer hull is fairly soft .. they still hurt from thirty feet up !
Most of the leaves gave up holding on long before the nuts did !
Ah haaa ... another near miss !!!!
