| First multi wood knife handle for a friends broken knife |
As you may or may not know .. I am a tinkerer.
(If that's a word) Although my
skill levels are low , my imagination Is
right up there with the best of them.
I have many interest and will try just about
anything. I like to think of it as a sort of
self reliance sort of mentality. I could buy
most of the things I make very cheaply
but somehow it just wouldn't be as
satisfying. I don't know how you can, for
example, simply throw away a knife that was
your fathers for years because of a broken handle
| Sheath and knife handle made from my old welding apron |
a Made in China cheapie and still sleep at night.
But that's me. People do it everyday.

By the same token I have found that we do
have limits. More times than I can count I have
failed, sometimes miserably, to duplicate what
my mind envisioned. In such cases I have
succumbed to technology and just bit the bullet
and bought the product. But let it be know it
wasn't without a great deal of thought and effort first !
A good example was this weekend I decided to
make a mount for a cell phone on my 4 wheeler.
So simple a fifth grader could do it right?
(Go fetch me a fifth grader) Mount came out really nice and I was sure I could
get some great trail footage with the camera of my cell phone without spending
a fortune on a fancy new camera. I was mistaken. First off the camera was
mounted to the front of the bike naturally so the audio faintly picked up the
exhaust noise in a such a way that it sounded like little toy running in the
background. Secondly, although I expected vibration, I didn't expect to be
sea sick after only a few seconds of watching. All and all the whole project
was a scratch. Although some tweaking could occur at a later date.
I'm not one to give up easily To add insult to injury the case that I put my
phone in to protect it from what I figured was an inevitable fall, cast an
eerie green glow on the bottom of the film reminiscent of the green grass
and blue sky filters for the TV's in the sixties. Oops .. That's going too far
back for most of you ..lol Hey I have another idea !! Off to do some tinkering .
