We finally had an entire weekend of nice weather last
weekend. It's hard to believe but true. And although
my weekend was chopped up a bit with prior commitments
I did manage to spend some quality time outdoors. A
couple of bike rides through the woods coupled with
several long walks exploring new areas was just what the
doctor ordered.. that and forty five different pills...lol
The first thing I ran into was what must have been home
to the National Woodpeckers convention this spring.
I have seen several of the large red headed ones around camp
and I'm not sure if that's what did the damage but whatever
it was , they had a heck of a headache the next day.

I am not overly fond of snakes. Any snakes. I don't panic
but I am quick to put distance between me and them. For
some reason this one fascinated me. I'm not sure if it was
L.E.D. or it just had new batteries in it but it was brighter
than anything living I have ever seen........

My next little trek provided an unexpected treat.
I am not a big fan of mushrooms store bought or otherwise.
However I have always been fascinated by the Morel
mushrooms everybody but me seems to find in the woods.
I think the real challenge for me was just locating some and
figuring out the kinds of areas where they grow. 'Shroom
hunters are known for their unwillingness to divulge their
honey holes. They are worse than fisherman. During a
conversation last week someone let slip a general location
that I was unfamiliar with but I decided to explore a little
and low and behold.. I found a few. Fried a few up in butter
over the campfire and they were pretty impressive for fungus..lol
