Happy birthday to me.....

Something as simple as an afternoon nap.  Yet it
brought me more happiness and fear combined than
any real life experience I've had in quite some time.
Such a rainy drab day I decided to take a nap in
the spare bedroom with my trusted guard dogs.  Even
though I have a history of not so pleasant dreams my
schedule lately has me a bit worn down and I felt the
need for some deep mid day rest.
Now for a little background I am a belly sleeper.
I have never been able to sleep laying on my back.
So as usual I assumed my position and fell asleep with
my two trusty guard dogs at my feet.  After about thirty
minuets of blissful rest I was awaken by strange noises.
As I opened my eyes I was in a dimly lit room. Surely I
hadn't slept all day.  I heard soft voices and assumed
my wife and her friend had came home from their ladies
day out as they call it so I wasn't much concerned.
Just about then I noticed someone peeking in the
bedroom door.  They looked familiar  but in the dim light
I couldn't quite make out who it was.  Then a couple more
people appeared.  I should really get up and see what was
going on. All of the sudden I noticed a good friend from my
past and her husband.  It was the first people that I actually
recognized.  I expected to see the big smiles that I remember
so well but they both had a concerned look about them.  That's
when I decided I'd had enough and just had to know what was
going on.  I tried to throw off the fleece throw and get up but
I couldn't.  It was like I was trapped.  Was I still asleep ?  I
couldn't even move my arms let alone get up.  People were
leaving and I was starting to panic.  I at least have to say hello!
Just then I woke up in a cold sweat.  Relieved I tried to get up
but was met with the same results.. Trapped and immobile !
After several moments I came fully awake and realized that my
situation wasn't something supernatural or death as I had imagined
but simply two eight pound dogs laying on either side of me on top
of my throw pinning me to the bed !  In my panic I knocked one
dog off of the bed and completely startled the other one.
Could this be what death is like?  If so it is very frustrating.
On one hand it was a blessing seeing that a few people thought
enough to come say goodbye but it was a terrible feeling not
being able to communicate with them.  I guess when the time comes
I'll have to have the patience to wait till they come and join me
on whatever cloud I'm assigned to.  So while I'm still here I just
want y'all to know that if there are doors or gates on our eternal
homes...Mine will be open day and night !  But watch out for the dogs...
