Men are tough ! Rough hands, stubble face, flannel shirts,
denim jeans and work boots. Their feelings are as calloused as
their hands. They always take the trials and tribulations of life in
stride. They never get emotional about anything. So goes the
persona that we try to project. Hogwash ! Well ok maybe just
hogwash in in my respect. I'm sure there are men like that the
world over. I guess I just don't happen to be one of them. I'ts
like we all like to play the part but as the old saying goes.
"Who are you when no one is around ?"
I melt all too often. All of these corny clips with service
men reuniting with their families and dogs or the ones with the
kids repaying their elderly parents for some sacrifice they made
in the past, They all choke me up a little. Why? I don't know.
Maybe it's just the outpouring of affection that is seen so rarely
these days in our everyday lives. I guess I can't talk for everyone
but the world to me has become a calloused place. I guess it is
in part due to the rough image we are taught to portray. I guess
until you really get inside of a person you shouldn't judge them
but If there are caring people in this world today.. they hide it well.
What brings up this topic? This morning I was watching a
couple videos as usual and I came across one by a guy I follow
that does everything on the cheap. Always looking for ways to
do repairs and such for little or no money. Today's video was a bit
different. Today he was taking his aging dog to the vets to be put
down. Owning a fourteen year old lab with hip issues I guess it
hit home a little. In the end he didn't make the vet appointment
an decided to pamper his friend until the pain became unbearable.
These decisions are tough. I've had people tell me walk him to the
hole and *pop* problem solved.. That won't happen here I can assure
you .
Now I'm not stating these things to give the impression that I am
a softy or that I blubber at the drop of a hat. I'm stating this because
I think we need to be reminded that what we see on the outside isn't
always what is contained inside. I long ago realized that sometimes,
although we think somebody seems lukewarm in their friendship, for
some reason that may be the best they are capable of. I personally have
many flaws such as not remembering important dates or milestones
that could be conceived as calloused and uncaring. I assure you it's
not but i'm sure to someone that takes great stock in such things it
would seem so.
When I assess a person I simply look at how they treat me and
not so much on the persona they try to project. I think people have
a certain idea of how they want to be perceived and outwardly try to
project that image. Look inside.. See what's really there. You may be
surprised at what you find.
Well this post went to pot. I guess one can guess I had no particular
theme in mind.. just some old fart rambling. But I guess if it had a
theme at all it would be that flannel and denim wipe tears just as well
as silk and fine linen.......... Don't be ashamed to use either ..
