I thought this time I would write a short post attempting
to get answers to a few random questions I've had recently.
I'm sure that people in the specific fields know the answers
but for some reason I never remember to ask when the situation
arises.
Recent medical procedure....
Ok.. I understand the gown. I still have reservations about the
opening being in the rear but that's another post. (possibly why
the department is called I.C.U ) But my question is, when I was
put on the operating table for a procedure on my nasal cavity
was I told to sit up so they could untie my robe? In case of a
massive hemorrhage in my nose is there something under my
robe that they have to squeeze to stop the bleeding ? I don't
understand. Admittedly I have may have grabbed certain parts
involuntarily when i had to sneeze. But I assure you it had nothing
to do with blood clotting.
Oxygen levels. One is not allowed to leave post op until their
blood oxygen level is at a certain point. A device placed on ones
finger reads this level. Now I had the surgery because I couldn't
breath and my low oxygen level made me tired and listless. So
here I lie after an hour or so of surgery with my head packed full
of cotton and just waking up from the anesthesia and low and behold
my level was too low. Go figure ! Anyways nurse removes the
monitor from my finger and places it on my forehead... still no good
hmm so she places it on my ear and wa laa.. I'm good to go ! Now
my question is.. Is it acceptable to just search for a spot that has
enough oxygen saturation to pass?? (untying the gown comes to mind)
Maybe it would just be easier to strap the monitor onto a passerby
long enough to get a passable reading. That wasn't necessary in my
case since I had learned to breath through my ears at an early age.
Well I did promise this would be a short post although I do have several
other questions that I need answers to I must attend to a few pressing
medical follow ups such as taking a bucket full of pills and firing a
high velocity water cannon (designed by an over zealous firefighter
no doubt) up my nose. Just praying all the while that I don't wash
out something I may need later !!
hmm perhaps I should untie my gown first ! just in case........
