So many of life's lessons are learned behind the wheel
of an automobile. I sometimes wonder how people who
have never driven even function in life. I guess we pick
up life's lessons other places along the line but I think
hurling a thirty five hundred pound hunk of steel and explosive
chemicals down the road at breathtaking speeds lends one
to maybe try to pick up lessons a bit quicker without having
to repeat the lesson numerous times.
One of the many things we learn from driving is cooperation.
Anybody that has sat at a 4 way stop when traffic is bad knows
how important it is to cooperate with the other drivers. It only
takes one or two selfish people to start a complete 'I was here first'
war. By the way .. everyone loses in this type of war. Hopefully
we carry this lesson into our everyday life and learn to respect
others opinions and actions and acknowledge that we all have to
get along to survive.

Another thing we pick up on is safety. One only has to see a
couple of accidents or films of accidents to realize that they
want no part in one. Once we learn to be observant an anticipate
what 'might' happen we are better able to take precautions to prevent
bad things from happening in our lives. You know.. "A ounce of
prevention... yada yada .
One other life lesson we learn from driving is that It isn't
always blue skies, smooth straight roads and a cool breeze in
our hair. There will be bumpy roads, many hills, both up and down
and more than enough rainy days.. maybe even some cold and bitter
ones. But to reach our destination we have to travel through it all.
There are no detours.
I remember many things that happened in cars over the years from
the immense pride I felt driving my first brand new car off of the dealers
showroom to the embarrassment of my first wreck, my first ticket, all the
way back to total frustration at myself involving a pretty young lady and
a rear speaker. But just like in life we savor the good times and try and
forget the bad. Just try not to forget them completely.. just keep them
tucked away for future reference.........
