A recent survey on Facebook caught my attention.
I very seldom take these surveys, including this one, but
I did find one of the questions interesting.
Name five 'little things' that make your day special.......
Waking up 'awake'
All of my adult life I have been one of those alarm goes
off ,, feet hit the floor kind of people. I thinking swinging
shifts the last forty years helped me master that. Sleep was a
waste of valuable time so when the alarm went off it was
time to make hay. Since retirement I don't feel that need to
squeeze every second out of the day, So although I still wake
up early, I'm not so inclined to rush into my day. Over time
this has made me a bit sluggish in the am. So on those
mornings that I wake up rested and ready to go I feel so much
more energetic..
Getting mail...
Sounds funny but since starting my You Tube channel I
get quite a bit of mail. Something as simple as a channel
sticker from a friend to gifts from subscribers to thank you
cards from people I have sent stickers or gifts to. Each one
is very special to me knowing somebody has taken the time
out of their day to send me something. Size and value doesn't
matter. Just knowing I crossed somebody's mind is the gift !
Warm morning sunshine..
It can be bitter cold outside but if I can look out that window
and see bright sunshine I know there is hope for a good day.
Good cup of coffee..
Although I seldom finish my first cup because of stomach issues
from medication first thing I the morning It still is the taste
that says time to face the new day God has given me. Then I can
look forward to a second and third cup later as I make my way
through my day Each day is a blessing and it's that first sip of coffee
that sparks that feeling.
Getting a smile from a stranger..
The world is full of nodders and sourpusses . You've seen them.
They walk past you on the street or in the stores and simply nod their
head or worse yet stare blankly past you as you pass. But every now
and then you get that one person that returns your smile with a warm
smile and momentary eye contact. Almost as if they are looking for
the same thing you are . Bang.. what a reward. It makes up for at least
half of the sourpusses and nodders you will meet on that given day.
Just the other day I encountered a treasure chest of happiness in of
all places .. WalMart. As I walked the aisles on the food side I
encountered a middle aged lady with three or four teenage kids that
looked a bit shall we say war-torn Still she managed a smile as we
passed . I realized that the kids were not her own and each had a slight
level of learning disability. All of the sudden one of the older boys
walked up to me smiling and put out his hand and introduced himself.
As I shook his hand he turned to the lady and said.. Mrs; so and so.. Look
who I met !! It was obvious she was his teacher and had them out on
a shopping expedition. She said hello to me and we made small talk
for a second or two. I not sure who the lad thought he had met but as we
passed each other in every aisle each of my new friends high fived me
and shared a smile. I didn't buy many groceries that day and when I left
my cart was almost empty... But my heart was full.. and that's all that matters...
Hearing from friends…
Nobody talks anymore. Nobody calls. I guess we need to take
solitude in the 'new' ways of communication. I'm partially to blame
because I don't pay much attention to my phone when I'm at home.
I do have a couple friends that text me throughout the day but I
usually get their messages an hour or so later. My wife calls me out
on this on a daily basis. Problem is I really do like hearing from people
I just dislike having my phone being a part of my life 24-7 . Nothing
brings me more joy that to turn on my computer and see the message
box lit up ! Yes posts are nice but I like to think somebody actually
thought of me, if only for a split second, to send me a message.
Silly I know.. That's why I have to limit myself at sending messages.
I know not everybody shares my need for attention ..lol I sometimes
think I offend some people when I overdo it with the messages.. Not
all people like personal contact. Understandable. Just tonight I sent
out several e-mails and messages before I said to myself.. enough
already! lol
So there's my five things I could do five more.. or a hundred more but
those are the five I came up with tonight. Give it a try.. even if you don't
post it. It feels good to write the pleasant things in life down sometimes.....
