I can see clearly now... NOT

Being an outdoorsman over the years I have often wished that I could see things that the average person can't see with the naked eye.  For instance when I first launch my boat on a calm lake early in the morning It would be so nice to be able to look over the foggy mist covered expanse of water and be able to tell exactly where the fish were hiding on that day.  Are they snuggled up against the rocky shoreline waiting for the morning sun to warm the rocks and awaken the crayfish and baitfish to provide them with a hearty breakfast?  Or are they cruising the deeper water just offshore waiting to ambush a roaming school of shad hiding in the deeper darker water ?  It would be so much easier if they would just revel themselves so one would know which places to pursue and which places to avoid.  They would still have the option of whether to bite my lure or just swim off and avoid the confrontation.  Who knows .. maybe they feel extra sporty that particular day and decide to pick a fight with my lure.  Or maybe just swim away and hide in a safe place under a log.  Either way we both know each other are present and are exercising our options.  Instead they hide in all sorts of cover.  Cover where you would never expect them to be.  It takes an angler years of experience to see through their deceptive ways and learn which fish utilize which type of cover.  Often we never quite figure it out.

One example of just the opposite is the dog.  It is uncommon to walk past a dog and not get a pretty good idea of his demeanor or intentions.  Although there are exceptions dogs most always revel themselves fairly openly.  Friendly dogs wag their tails and roll over for belly rubs.  Mean dogs bristle, growl and snarl.  abused or neglected dogs cower and run.  Dogs wear their demeanor on their collars for all to see..  Maybe that's why I respect dogs so much.  You pretty much know where you stand with a dog.   If only we as people could learn to be as transparent.

The one thing I am learning (note I did not say I have learned) is that unlike the fish that always hides or the dog that is always forthright we people can house many different personalities inside ourselves.  These past couple years have taught me that people I knew for a fact were kind and generous people have a hateful greedy seed  that was just waiting to bloom.  People that five years ago would never had used such degrading and nasty language against their friends and neighbors.  Sure there were always the open just downright mean people that we steered clear of.  But looking back maybe they were the only honest ones.  The floodgates have been opened. Such behavior is acceptable now.  Choose your side.  Don't matter which you chose you now have the right to verbally beat the other side into submission.  The big thing now is 'Freedom of speech' ..  A great thing.  I guess we also should write in 'Freedom to be an Asshole'  That seems to fit most of todays dialog better these days !         I guess we should thank our politicians for letting people come out of the closet and show their hidden personas.   I guess that is what I was asking for all along  Now I'm not so sure.....
