They're out there....

My faith in humanity is renewed !  At least a smidgen.
Yesterday on my way to camp I stopped at my local grocer
to pick up a couple things.  As usual I gathered my items
and headed to the check-out.  Again as usual I placed my debit
card in the machine only to have it declined.  Thinking I may
have entered my pin wrong I redid it and was declined again.
The very sympathetic cashier them took the card and tried to
run it as a credit... no go.  Then from back in the line a gentelman
says ..I'll pay for his groceries.  A man I had never seen before.
I thanked him but declined his offer.  In steps the store owner as
the line builds behind me and tells me.. just take it and you can pay
next time.  I thanked him but said let me check my truck for
cash or a check.   So they delete my order and I go out and retrieve
a check from my truck and as I go back in the store I encounter the
man who offered once again to pay for my groceries.  I thanked him
for the kind gesture and paid and left.
Upon arriving at camp I just couldn't get it off my mind so back in
the truck I go, back home.  Upon logging on to my computer I get a
E-Mail notification from my bank saying they detected a suspicious
charge on my card.   I go to my banking website and find three debits
on my card for that day.  The bank had automatically put a block on my
card.  You may ask how they knew it was suspicious?  One charge was
$350.00 worth of rock climbing equipment in California.  Anybody
that knows me knows I have no use for that stuff...lol  Another was for
an Uber fee in Philly.  A quick trip to the bank this morning and I think
I have everything under control although it will be seven to ten days before
I get a replacement card.   With all these years of direct deposit, pay pal and
debit card,  having cash is a strange feeling.  I hope I don't forget and use
it as fire starters.
Back to the point.  I guess there still are good people in the world.  Maybe
not as many as I'd like to see.. but they are there.   My heartfelt thanks to
the man who offered to help and the store owner who trusted me enough to
pay later and to the cashier and bank teller who helped me through my crisis.
I hope someday I can pay it forward.   (note to self)   keep cash available!!!!!
