Walmart moments....

I am not your average Walmart hater.  Yes I do have a problem with
the fact that one huge store can displace  all the mom and pop stores I
used to love so much and I don't like the fact that these stores limit the
options of where I can shop.   Same with Lowe's  in that they have just
about made it the only place in town for hardware and lumber.  One either
buys from these giants or does without.  I fight it as best I can by shopping
local businesses as much as possible but let's face it ... It's tough.
One thing can be said for these places is variety and availability.  I have
seen things in Walmart that I haven't seen anywhere else.  A case in point
is last week I saw packages of chicken feet in the meat counter.  The sad
thing is 'somebody' probably requested them.  If so I hope it makes their
Thanksgiving gravy or dinner just perfect !   I'll stick with legs and breasts.
The other thing is the 'people of Walmart'   (yea I know .. I'm one of them)
Today i was in line buying some produce (I hate their produce) and a guy
behind me struck up a conversation.  He must have mistaken my politeness
for interest because he felt the need to discuss every item in my cart.  Long
story short I was watching a clip on 18 th century cooking and decided to
try an age old recipe for 'Root Soup'.  It's not as disgusting as it sounds.
Simply carrots, parsnips some turnip sauteed in butter  then cooked in beef
broth and thickened with a couple tempered eggs. oh and a little green onion.
Anyway this guy sees the parsnips in my cart and ask.. "What are you going
to do with them?"   I had an answer right away but I decided it was in bad
taste so I refrained and simply said 'eat them'   He answered .. "Good luck
with that"  I thought you were getting them to feed the deer with.  Not wanting
to get into the entire recipe (Like I did here) I said they're good in soup.
He kinda shook his head and said.. "so ya cook 'em 'eh ?"  As my transaction
was complete I simply smiled and said .. Yea like I do most of my food and
walked away.  Sometimes I enjoy talking to strangers when I'm out and about....
Other times I just wonder who ties their shoes for them in the morning.......
