Twenty lashes with a wet noodle !!!! That's what
I deserve. All of my complaining about bad weather and
here I sat all day on this beautiful day doing absolutely
nothing. Well I did get blood work done early this morning
before our breakfast meeting and did a little shopping
afterwards. But when I got home around noon I slipped
into my vegetation state and wasted the day watching videos
and catching up on the latest political happenings. (Any
ideas on how to erase things from one's memory bank ??)
Anyway other than doing a few dishes and running the
sweeper I might as well been in a body cast. I guess I'll have
to hit it hard tomorrow to make up for today. Besides ..
my wife will be home tomorrow to prod me along.
Second topic.. It's a standing joke around here that started
when my son was very young. He told me one day .. "Daddy
since you take care of me, when you get older I will take care
of you.. unless you get to where you can't feed yourself.. then
you'll have to go to a home" He was six or seven at the time
and from that day forward they always teased me that if I dropped
a pea I was out of here. I always ask my wife if I could have
honey on my peas after that to make them sticky. Well I've been
pretty lucky so far but yesterday I came in from grass cutting
and told my wife it was alright to go ahead and call Shady Acres
retirement home. I had put the bagger on the tractor as I usually do
and proceeded to cut the front lawn. After a couple passes I
noticed that it wasn't picking up as well as it normally did. But
since the grass wasn't that high anyway I decided to finish the
yard and then look at what was causing the problem.. probably
just a clogged chute I suspected. Upon finishing I drove around
and parked where I could get a good look at it and as I walked
behind the tractor I noticed there wasn't any bags on the bagging
attachment. They were still hanging, neatly folded, in the garage
where I keep them. There was just a chute blowing the cut grass
out behind the tractor. They're packing my bags as I type this...
On another note.. While watching all of these cooking videos
I see all of these people eating foods that I have never really
tried before (or tried and didn't like) and I feel compelled to
find out what I'm missing. Amazingly enough the answer is
'nothing at all' ! Fending for myself today I decided it was
a good day to try a few new to me things that I had seen people
enjoying. Starting with an avocado. Now I had eaten them before
and recalled not caring for the taste or the texture. But that was
a long time ago. Alas my memory was 100% accurate. I see no
purpose in them what so ever unless they are a super food that
cures all ailments. I even tried to smother them in Tabasco sauce
as one guy recommended. That was worse. End of experiment !
Next came asparagus this evening. I have eaten worse things in
my time but I can't really remember when. OK maybe at lunch
with the avocado but since I do likes almost all greens and such
sauteing them in butter and garlic made them palatable. Still a bit
weed like but passable. So to all of the so-called outdoor cooks
that I watch videos of savoring these delicious treats I have one
thing to say to you ... Camp near a McDonalds.. You might not live
as long but you'll die with a smile on your face........
Come to think of it .. maybe I shouldn't be left unsupervised as
often as I am !
