all great fun and relaxation but then I'd be fibbing. I guess
like anything in life nothing comes without a price. This
weekend was no exception. The last few weeks around here
has been a mixture of strange weather patterns. Nothing
real severe but constantly changing. several days of rain
followed by a few nice sunny days then a couple really cool
days. This has made grass cutting a real challenge this spring.
So when the good days come around , you'd better be ready
to spring into action. This weekend was cool but nice so that
meant two days of cutting and trimming at camp plus two days
of cutting and trimming at home. Add in the normal equipment
breakdowns and maintenance and it makes for a long weekend.
This time wasn't so bad.. Camp tractor took a little ill and needed
some carburetor tweaking and although my equipment preformed
ok.. my son dropped off a leaf blower and weed eater that absolutely
refused to participate in the weekend activities. But due to my
fantastic skills *blush* everything was humming in no time.
I actually took a little 'me' time and did some scouting and made
a couple discoveries. The first was a tree with a scar like I had
never seen before.. Almost heart shaped with very pronounced growth
rings. Kinda neat really ! At least I thought so........
The second discovery was not quite as unusual.
I had had them before never actually harvested them
myself so I set out to locate and dig some. Ramps are
a wild onion of sorts but I think they are more of a onion
garlic combination. Fairly plentiful once you know what
your looking for and very tasty. A word of caution.. They
stay with you for a long time so don't plan a romantic evening
on the day of harvest. There are even Ramp Festivals in down
state West Virginia in the spring.
And of course no weekend would be complete without
cutting a full load of firewood. Fairly easy access due to
the well pad people hauling logs to an open field making
for easy pickings. However it still takes a lot of hefting and
tossing large logs to fill up a truck plus unloading it afterwards.
For that reason I have no pictures of the truckload of wood as I was
unable to lift the phone high enough to take a picture when the job was done.
So today was a day of rest. All I did was pull out the boat , wash and wax it,
clean the carpet and service the engine, start it up and prepare for a day of fishing
Probably after my next grass cutting marathon...lol
